There are 3 types of adults (18 years old and up) who come to me for treatment.
Patients who have already undergone an orthodontic treatment in the past, but for some reason the teeth “moved” and now they want to do it again (why have they even moved to begin with?!?…).
Patients who have noticed that crowding has formed in their teeth and it makes them uncomfortable to brush their teeth or clean in between them with dental floss.
Patients that require a large treatment (implants, dental crowns or periodontal treatment) and teeth straightening is one of its’ stages.
The main concern of these patients regarding orthodontic treatments is how will the orthodontic devices look.
Many of them are concerned that visible braces will make them look childish and embarassing, while others simply don’t want “the entire world” to know that they’re going throught an orthodontic treatment.
So first of all, let me tell you that recently white/clear braces have become sort of a “trend” among women in their 30’s-40’s-50’s, and I’ve been recently meeting more and more female patients who asked specifically for clear/white braces.
There’s an interesting article on this topic that you can read And if you still don’t want anybody to see the orthodontic device at all(!), there are 2 main options you can choose from:
There are a couple of companies known around the world who make them.
Each method has its own advantages and disadvantages I would love to tell you about when we meet.
Certain patients want to minimise the appearance of the silver, shiny orthodontic device…
There are a few options in this case:
Clear/white braces made of porcelain – minimises significantly the device’s visibility, so in reality what you mostly see is the wire that connects all the braces (which can be white as well).
By the way, this device became sort of a “trend” among women in their 30’s-40’s-50’s who request this type specifically. You can read about it in the article here.
Clear aligners (plates), with Invisalign being the leading producing company, but there are also other companies such as Clear Correct and even local ones.
Hidden braces (Lingual) – braces that are glued from the inner side of the teeth (the side of the tongue, therefore their name).
There are a couple of companies that produce them as well, such as Incognito and WIN.
Each method has its own advantages and disadvantages I would love to tell you about when we meet.
